Second Largest Sale of Saskatchewan’s Oil and Gas Rights

The August sale of Crown petroleum and natural gas rights yielded the second largest sale proceeds in Saskatchewan's history.  The sale raised $242.7 million in revenue for the province bringing the year-to-date revenue total to $848.1 million.

A record was broken for the price paid on a per-hectare basis when a 130 hectare parcel was purchased for $5.7 million setting the new record at $44,201 per hectare.

"The oil and gas industries clearly like what is happening in Saskatchewan," Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd said. "This confidence by the industry not only means more revenues to the province right now, but it also signals much more economic activity in future and more jobs and opportunities for Saskatchewan people."

The next sale of Crown petroleum and natural gas dispositions will take place October 6, 2008 and will include the sale of oil sands exploration licences.
