According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan's population increased faster than any other Canadian province over the last year. With a population of 1,045,622 on July 1, 2010, that is a year-over-year rate increase of 1.6 per cent, also the largest quarterly increase in the province's population since 1982.
"Just a few short years ago, our province was actually losing people," Premier Brad Wall said. "Now we are the fastest growing province in the country. People are looking for opportunity and a great quality of life, and that's what we have right here in Saskatchewan."
Of the 4,887 people that moved to Saskatchewan in the last quarter 1,027 people migrated from other Canadian provinces, 2,437 were international migrations, and 1,423 were natural increases (births - deaths).
These increases bring Saskatchewan's total growth to more that 50,000 people since the beginning of 2007.
